WORKBENCH GUIDE
Slat layouts that finish with whole boards
Choose what stays fixed: count, target gap or exact gap.
With count fixed, the gap follows from remaining width. With a target gap, the count must be a whole number and the gap can change. Fixed-gap mode preserves the gap and centres the assembly, leaving end margins. Including a gap before the first or after the last slat changes the divisor. Measure the actual width of several slats: small differences can accumulate, and the drawing uses one representative width.
Reset example
Across 2,400 mm, 49 slats of 30 mm leave 930 mm. Without end gaps, there are 48 gaps of 19.375 mm. With fixed 20 mm margins at each side, gaps become 18.5417 mm.
