WORKBENCH GUIDE
Frames: long point, short point and rabbet
Artwork size is not automatically the visible opening size.
The long point is the outer end of each segment. The short point follows the visible inside opening. For rectangular frames, adding two profile widths to the opening gives outside size. The rabbet opening extends behind the profile and is usually larger than the visible opening. Choose the correct reference in the calculator. The list provides geometric lengths; the stock plan must additionally consider kerf, trim and packing strategy.
A 400 × 600 mm opening and 40 mm profile give a 480 × 680 mm exterior. An 8 mm rabbet gives a 416 × 616 mm rabbet opening.
