SHEET MATERIAL

Birch plywood: weight per sheet, thicknesses and sizes

Plywood made entirely of birch veneers. The Handbook of Finnish Plywood gives a mean design density of 680 kg/m³ at 65% relative humidity, and 620 kg/m³ for combi plywood, with two birch face veneers on each side and alternating conifer and birch veneers in the core.

Weight per sheet

Volume × the mean density of Birch plywood, the same calculation as the weight calculator. Actual panels vary around this mean.

Cutting, edges and fixing

For Finnish plywood the face grain generally runs along the shorter side of standard panels, the first dimension stated, so check the grain before locking it in the sheet-cut calculator. In the handbook’s table an 18 mm birch panel has 13 plies and weighs about 12.2 kg/m², which matches 680 kg/m³.
