SHEET MATERIAL
HDF and hardboard: weight per sheet, thicknesses and sizes
High-density fibreboard and hardboard are thin, dense fibre panels. The Wood Handbook lists hardboard at a specific gravity of 0.9–1.0, the densest panel in its comparison table. The weights below use that hardboard range, which does not define every HDF product.

Weight per sheet
Volume × density, the same calculation as the weight calculator. Each cell uses the low and high ends of the source range as reference examples. For the panel you buy, use your supplier’s density instead of treating this range as a product specification.
| Thickness | 2,440 × 1,220 mm | 2,750 × 1,850 mm |
|---|---|---|
| 3 mm | 8.0–8.9 kg | 13.7–15.3 kg |
| 6 mm | 16.1–17.9 kg | 27.5–30.5 kg |
The sizes and thicknesses in the table are worked examples. Formats vary by market and manufacturer, so enter your supplier’s sizes in the weight or sheet-cut calculator.
Cutting, edges and fixing
Thin panels are entered at their own thickness in the drawer and cabinet calculators, and the sheet-cut calculator only places parts on stock of the same material and thickness. The thicknesses and sizes in the table are examples, not a standard list.
