SHEET MATERIAL
OSB (oriented strand board): weight per sheet, thicknesses and sizes
OSB is made of thin wood strands bonded with waterproof resin, usually in three layers with the face strands aligned along the length of the panel (Wood Handbook, chapter 11). Its specific gravity is 0.5–0.8.

Weight per sheet
Volume × density, the same calculation as the weight calculator. Each cell uses the low and high ends of the source range as reference examples. For the panel you buy, use your supplier’s density instead of treating this range as a product specification.
| Thickness | 2,440 × 1,220 mm | 2,500 × 1,250 mm |
|---|---|---|
| 9 mm | 13.4–21.4 kg | 14.1–22.5 kg |
| 12 mm | 17.9–28.6 kg | 18.8–30.0 kg |
| 15 mm | 22.3–35.7 kg | 23.4–37.5 kg |
| 18 mm | 26.8–42.9 kg | 28.1–45.0 kg |
The sizes and thicknesses in the table are worked examples. Formats vary by market and manufacturer, so enter your supplier’s sizes in the weight or sheet-cut calculator.
Cutting, edges and fixing
Because the face strands are aligned, OSB is stronger and stiffer along its length; Table 12-1 gives a modulus of elasticity of 4.41–6.28 GPa. Structural OSB is span-rated for sheathing and subfloors: follow the grade stamp for structural spans. The sizes here are examples.
