SHEET MATERIAL

Softwood plywood: weight per sheet, thicknesses and sizes

Plywood with conifer veneers such as spruce or pine. The Handbook of Finnish Plywood gives mean densities of 520 kg/m³ with thin veneers and 460 kg/m³ with thick veneers; the Wood Handbook lists plywood at a specific gravity of 0.4–0.6.

Weight per sheet

Volume × density, the same calculation as the weight calculator. Each cell uses the low and high ends of the source range as reference examples. For the panel you buy, use your supplier’s density instead of treating this range as a product specification.

Cutting, edges and fixing

Plywood is the stiffest common panel in Wood Handbook Table 12-1, with a modulus of elasticity of 6.96–8.55 GPa, which matters for shelves and long spans. The Finnish handbook notes that conifer plywood can have its face grain in either direction, so mark the grain before cutting.
