SHEET MATERIAL

Solid wood panel (edge-glued): weight per sheet, thicknesses and sizes

Boards glued edge to edge into a wide panel. Unlike MDF or plywood it has no density of its own: it weighs what its species weighs and moves across its width like solid wood.

Weight per sheet

A solid wood panel weighs what its species weighs: volume × density at 12% moisture content. Follow a species name for its full data.

Cutting, edges and fixing

The Wood Handbook notes that well-made edge-grain joints can be as strong as the wood itself. Because the panel shrinks and swells across the grain, check the movement table on the species page before fixing it rigidly in a frame. The panel sizes are examples.
